Petit Villebois Sauvignon Blanc 2010, crisp and zesty

“Petit Villebois is not a caricature, it’s just what I want from a Loire Sauvignon Blanc. Although Villebois produce Sancerre and Pouilly Fume, this Petit Villebois is one of their cheaper wines and is released under the Vin de Pays du Val de Loire banner. It’s got the classic pale straw colour that you would expect along with a rounded mouth feel, nice acidity and a long finish. It’s crisp and zesty with tropical fruit aromas and a hint of elderflower.

Villebois Sauvignon Blanc Prestige review » Old Parn’s Wine Blog
A Simple, Straightforward Sauvignon Blanc. I probably don’t need to describe it too much. It’s got that nettley, grassy, springy thing. That gob-pleasing blast that’s the white wine world’s equivalent of MSG. Accessible. Light yet tongue-clubbingly flavoured.

13 August 2011Petit Villebois: to chill or not to chill
4 August 2011Comment on: Petit Villebois Sauvignon Blanc 2010
I enjoyed drinking this straight from the fridge and feeling the wine
develop with every mouthful.
Light, refreshing and dangerously drinkable when chilled.
Citrus fruit aromas begin to develop as the wine warms up and the
taste becomes sharper and pleasantly fruity with hints of lemon,
grapefruit and gooseberry.
Towards the bottom of the glass the nose has become more tropical and
the citrus flavours take on a more acidic note which is almost too
strong but in fact strangely moreish….time to top up again.
It’s at it’s best somewhere between chilled and 5 minutes later but on
a hot summers day it’s so perfectly drinkable you’d be lucky if
there’s any left by then.

To chill or not to chill that is the question. There is a school of
thought that straight from the fridge is to cold, but like you I feel
it allows the wine to develop in the glass and makes for a better all
round experience.

“This sauvignon blanc is striking because of its freshness and purity. It smells slightly of pretty flowers, fruit and herbs. It has a revigorating elegant taste with shades of lime, grapefruit, green apple and berries; a hint of quince completes it.
"But it was striking that the slightly chilled wine tasted fantastic while enjoying a creuse filled with a sliver of red grapefruit and red peppergrains. The color is purple red; it smells of violets, it gives you a velvety mouth sensation, impressive because of its perfectly ripe cherry-, raspberry and strawberry fruitiness with soft peppery touch."
